Default Clicking when depressing/releasing clutch pedal

Hey everyone,

It seems like only when my Jeep warms up, whenever I press in the clutch pedal I get a clicking/creaking noise (kind of like a creaky door). It happens when the Jeep is running and when turned off.

I had a friend pump the clutch while I searched for the sound and it seems like it is coming from the passenger side of the bell housing. If I held my hand up against it I could feel the clicking a bit.

I did check the hydraulic lines to see if they were rubbing against the firewall and it did not seem to be the case...

Anyone know what this may be? Is it something I need to worry about?

I have an '07 Wrangler Sahara w/ 80,000k on it, so warranty probably wouldn't cover any work that would need to be done.

Thanks!

Someone here was talking about this a while ago, & I believe the clutch springs were deeped to be responsible.

I had the exact same problem. The creaking is coming from the end of the slave cylinder. There is the shaft coming out of the slave cylinder and there is a plastic pivot on the end that contacts the release bearing fork. The noise is coming between the pivot and the shaft. If you have warranty, get the clutch slave cylinder replaced. If not, you could take the slave cylinder off of the bell housing, pull off the plastic pivot on the end (be careful not to pull out the shaft too far or you might have to bleed the clutch system). Put some grease in between and reinstall the pivot back onto the slave cylinder. I used brake slider grease.
So far no problems, and i did it at the beginning of the summer.

I have the same problem. The dealer didn't hear it the first few times I took it in and told me it was mud in my bell housing, but the sound happened before I had would have mud in there. I'm not sure they understood what I was talking about at first, but I made sure they were hearing the right noise. They said they'll be dropping the tranny next Wed. to find the problem. My neighbor and I both believe it's the problem stated above, and I've told the dealer this a few times as well. We'll see what happens next week and I will be sure to post the findings.

Well, the jeep went in today for the clutch clicking and creaking. They called me just a few hours after I dropped it off and said it wasn't the slave cylinder and that it was the disc and not covered under warranty anymore (over 12k miles) and would be ~$650 to fix it. I said don't fix it, the guy on the phone said
- - I don't blame you, theres nothing wrong, it's just noisy. And that there is a TSB on it but I'm past the 12k warranty for the clutch and that the reason it sounds like it's the slave cylinder is because it's all attached. - -
For now, I'll live with it. I'm not much for arguing with the dealer when it won't get me anywhere. He knew I wasn't happy and but he also doesn't write the warranty. I'll do some more researching before I decide to push the issue. What I'm happy about is he didn't say my clutch would give up on me without fixing it, just that it will make noise.
