Clutch, Dealer does not reccomend TSB help!
Hey gang, throwing this out there if anyone knows the validity of it
A little while ago, I noticed our 08 (early 08) JK developed the clutch noise and throw out bearing rattle. Its only got 6K on it (in 5 months
) but no harm no foul. Like the old saying goes, If its got T*ts or Tires at some point you'll have problems with it.
Anyway, we drop it for for the new clutch TSB and its a good Dodge/Jeep store and a good chunk of the guys wheel. The Service Advisor calls us to let us know, they really dont reccomend us doing this. I think their quote to my wife was "Your jeep is not a Pavement Princess and these new clutches wont take real offroading and will strand you".
Apparently Chrysler used a much softer friction material for the clutch to combat the noise. Although I don't have the squeal (I have the TB problem), the TSB's are no longer seperated and both should (and need) to be done togther. The Svc Mgr also told me the throw out bearing only TSB was no voided and superceeded by the new one.
Has anyone heard this before? I ran through the 8zillion clutch posts but no one really touched on this before.
We are going to hold off on doing it based on what they told us for now.
I am also a little suprised that I cant get or find a high end aftermarket clutch like Centerforce or Spec for the JK's. Is there an good aftermarket clutch for them? I would have no problem doing it myself on a Saturday warranty or not.
Thankfully before I saw the light moved over to greener pastures for an OEM builder of Rail Vehicle Equipment , I was a top Ford Senior Master and ASE Master automotive tech. My barn is loaded with every concievable tool and piece of equipment needed so its not like its a very hard job to do. Plus, I have a decent "fab" shop with Mig and Plasma Cutter in my barn so be a good time to "modify" that rock-grabbing-get me stuck OEM trans skid plate!
Thanks in advance for anyone with any info.

IMO you use your clutch significantly less offroad ( or you should ). I start in 3rd and rarely shift gears while in 4 low. I am no mechanical expert but that doesn't make complete sense to me.
I have had it done twice. The first time lasted about a month and it came back. squeal and rattle. Latest one has been done about 2 weeks. Who knows how it will work out. I really don't care. It's a lemon and is one meeting away from being gone.
