Default Clutch replacement cost?

Hi everyone,

Downshifting from 4th to 3rd the other week, my clutch suddenly failed. It had about 100k miles on it so it doesn’t come as a surprise, but just was a surprise to me about how it happened. I didn’t notice any signs of clutch slippage or anything like that, just suddenly went out on me. Weird.

Anyway, the mechanic wants to replace the clutch and while I’m waiting for him to give me a quote, what is a reasonable amount I should expect to pay? I’m in the NE region of the US for context.

Of course all of this happens as soon as it starts to get nice out and the mechanic is taking his good ol time to get around to it. The Jeep has been sitting at his shop for 2 weeks! So, I guess while I wait, I want to at least try to see if the quote he gives me is actually worth it.

Thanks!

The List price for the MOPAR OEM Clutch and Pressure Plate Kit is $337.00 6 new Bolts Pressure plate to flywheel OEM $1.95 each... OEM Mopar Flywheel $277.00 List.. You should replace the throwout bearing about $30. List.. IMO I would go back with OEM MOPAR.. the OE went 100K .. I have read some posts of issues using aftermarket clutches.

Jay's advice plus about 6-8 hours labour whatever that cost is per hour. And get them to check the clutch fork pivot while they are in and replace the pilot bearing.

Might as well do the rear main seal too. I would say you are looking at $1200-$1800.

Make sure they replace the clutch pivot fork and the ball it sits on. The ball should be oval, not round. If this is not replaced you will get noise out of your new clutch and it will quickly start having problems. Centerforce has a good video showing this in detail.

Have done both of my JK’s for $2,000 each including the rear main seal. Makes sense to do it since everything is down.
