Clutch slippage when cold?
So I have noticed lately as the days are getting colder.. that If I let the Jeep.. sit for a day or two.. when I take off in first it has a slight.. chatter/slip to it.. but once warm it's gone.. I thought nothing of it really... But then tonight.. I took it out.. and all was fine.. but I noticed when shifting into 3rd and 4th only.. I would get a crazy chatter , almost like the clutch plate was not fully engaging, it was weird.. i had slight shutters on acceleration.. but then would leave.. once the jeep was fully warmed up.. Anyone else had this? I have been driving manual for 16 years.. so I know it's not me lol.. o yeah the jeep only just hit 5000kms

I've read that it has to do with the metal content of the clutch's friction material oxidizing in cold & damp weather (you guys are in Autumn, right) and that while not desireable it's not fatal. Mine's been doing it for 20K miles now & no sign of slippage.
I think I had some of this today when shifting from first to second and second to third. Felt like an engine lugging from shifting to low in the RPM range but it was definitely a clutch thing because it happened all the way up to about 3300 RPM. The first to second deal cleared up in about five miles of city driving and the second to third took about 20 miles to go away. Haven't noticed this in the other manual vehicles I've driven on a regular basis, whatever, I've got 7000 miles on the odometer so I've got plenty of time to try and battle for some warranty work if it turns out to be an actual issue.

There were a few things I had looked at a while back and the paper trail is exactly what needs to happen. The same service guy that won't work any clutch issues also made sure some things were logged in the system so they know it was an issue before the warranty was up. It was simple piddly shit, but he said it would fine since they noted them while under warranty.

Thankfully my local dealer's been good to me thus far so if it should come down to repairs I don't think I'll have much of a problem convincing them to properly start a diagnosis and note it in my service history. Thanks again for sharing.
