Default Control Arm- diff housing

Had a run in on the highway with a rock that came off the back of a truck. Mighty big bang and a flat tyre, turned out the rim was cracked as well. Took it into Jeep for a replacement and they also indicated the bracket on the diff housing for the upper control arm was also broken. Guess what cannot be repaired. The quote for replacement, this is for the diff housing, control arm and new rim is $AUD11,706. So after i picked myself off the floor I am still in disbelief. Now i am no engineer but I do know abit about welding and cannot comprehend how a new bracket cannot be welded into place. Yes I acknowledge it is a suspenision component but it is welded in the first place. Any ideas ?

I know here in the states insurance would cover something like that. Also is getting a whole new mopar rubi axle with locker cheaper or about the same? Might want to consider that. good luck

Default bracket

The bracket is the one that sits under the diff, i will take a picture. It did not actually break but has moved about an inch out of alignment. The picture will explain it better. It is a Rubicon perhaps why the cost. Is there any aftermarket options ?

Insurance will cover it but then I will lose my no claim bonus

your insurance sould cover repairs, most dealers will not weld a repair, they likely are concerned with liability issues, and will replace whole housing, local dealer here replaced a buddys axle in his rubicon because malfunction in the swaybar didn't release and bent sway bar tab?? that would have been an easy fix,

good side, if you have the dana 30 see if they will order and 44 axle assembly...

I would try to contact another dealer. I know from personal experience that the chasis side mount for the lower control arm is available from Chrysler so why would they not have the diff side mount available?

Oiy, looks like a big ole hit, but nothing that can't be fixed. I'd pursue the insurance angle but if that dead ends its nothing that a weld shop cannot fix and likely beef up. The exsisting brackets may be able to be straightened but I'd just cut them off and weld on beefier ones. The control arm looks wasted but that gives you an excuse to upgrade to some quality adjustables. I'd say you can git er done for about $600 US.
