The guys had a tool that they plugged in, and ran over the outside edge of the windshield. It used high-frequency to heat and melt the adhesive under the glass. Guy said it cost him about $7500 for the tool, but has made JK glass reapir easy. Next cracked windshield, I will be going back to him! Only took him about 15 minutes to change too.

Default Georgia Windsheild Replacement.

I just had the glass guy from Safelite leave after replacing my windsheild today. Had a Tractor trailer kick up a rock the size of a golf ball. Boy that scared the crap out of me seeing this big rock heading at the glass. Safelite charged $447.97 for the Mopar glass to my insurance and I paid the $100.00 deductable. Statefarm used to be 100% coverage on glass but not any more . I recommend taping the window frame with painters tape before they get there. It saved me from scratches.

I just had it replaced this morning for $225.00 he used some fancy tool I guess it's the one you are referring to and with no scratches. Given the wranglers rep I'll keep the number stored in my speed dial. If anyone in the MD/DC area wants the number send me a P.M.

I just had mine repaired yesterday afternoon by safelight. Had something hit it on my way to work yesterday. I asked them when they got here to quote replacing the whole thing if they couldn't fix it or made it worse when they attempted the repair. They quoted $205.60 for a replacement, but they were able to repair it for $52.00 which my insurance paid.

I believe that the reason that they break is not a quality issue with the glass but a design issue of the Jeep. The Jeep windshield is far more upright than a car's. The rake(or slope) of a car windshield may allow some stones to glance off where the Jeep windshield takes a more direct hit.

I've seen this on our larger delivery truck at work vs our company pick up trucks. The large truck windshield is more upright and has to be replaced twice for stone hits. The more aerodynamic pick ups have taken stone hits with no damage.

I don't know what to say about the defroster heat causing the glass to break on a cold day. The vent is close to the glass and the heater is very hot

Is is better to turn on the defroster as soon as you start up the Jeep on a cold morning to allow the glass to heat up gradually as the engine heat up?

In exactly one year, I now have four stone hits. All on the passenger side (oddly, none in the passenger line of sight!), and only one really bad one. I had the bad one epoxied (no charge) so it wouldn't spread.

I am not going to replace the glass until I absolutely have to (it may be required through the new York State inspection), since the new glass will get dinged just as often.

What can ya do... this is truly "a Jeep thing".

I'm on my 3rd windshield in 1 year. Smashed the factory one the day after I took it off the lot. The second time it happened was on I-16 for me, too, GATECH.

Fully covered by insurance, USAA rocks!

But now I have a bunch of long deep scratches from a dirty squeegee at a gas station but I figure that problem will be solved soon enough when this windshield gets smashed...

x2 on the windshield angle being part of the culprit. Toyota's FJ is very prone to this also, maybe even more so than our JK's

factory glass rock chip on edge
had rubber gasket installed on 2nd glass
2nd glass had rock fly off tire of a sahara Jk and took out windshield
on my 3rd one now figure at most it will last me 6 months till another rock takes it out
up here in canada it costs 750$ for glass replacement, that is the good PPG glass

it is all about the angle of the windsheild that makes it prone to this.
