Default Cruise control almost never engages

The cruise control on/off button hardly ever turns the cc on. Is this a common issue? Any DIY fixes?

2011 Rubicon, AT, approx 31k miles

Had this issue on my 2011. They replaced both the switch on the steering wheel as well as the harness inside the steering column. Fixed the issue. I don't have the paperwork in front of me so I can't give specifics beyond that. Pull the codes your JK has given, mine had codes related to cruise control, which led them to replace the parts.

Good stuff to know, will try that next, but I was hoping it would be something stupid under the hood. Thanks!

Are you lifted or have any recent work done?

I ask because the CC will get turned off sometimes if the steering wheel is off center after a lift. Also if any of your speed sensors are damaged or faulty the CC will not work.

Interesting...Not lifted, but I did get started trying to put in leveling kit and changed my mind halfway through (got as far as unbolted track bar at frame side, then decided to bag it and put it back together stock), and ever since then the steering wheel has been off center. So now I wonder if just re-centering the steering wheel could bring cruise control back?

I would give that a try first before I started replacing any parts. Are you familiar with the procedure?

Yes thank you! There was a steering wheel re-centering topic in the Pro Cal programmer instructions so I will try that before hitting the dealer.

Cbeck your codes first or if you have a superchip you can read the DTC codes (more specific). For me personally, the steering wheel being off will throw codes, but that won't mess with cruise control. The wheel speed sensors are what will kill it instantly. But then dash lights will be on.

If you have no codes and no dash lights it is likely an internal problem.

I installed my cruise control myself and have had no issues, maybe you have a bad switch or the wiring came loose. Any water get in there?

Good luck, installing cruise was my best mod to date.

When my steering wheel wasn't centered it wouldn't let me engage cruise. The light would come on that cruis function was activated but I couldn't actually engage cruise. It was like the computer has a internal code and it wasn't displaying. Centered the wheel. And no problem since

I didn't have any OBD II codes when mine was acting up. Sometimes it would work sometimes not. I have scanner that can check the engine controller, and there was two codes there. The dealer I bought it from would look at it because every time I went there it was working.
I went to a different dealer, and at first their star scan couldn't find the codes that my scan had. Then we started the Jeep, and the cruise wouldn't work. Then they got the codes. It was the steering wheel switch. It has been good ever since they replaced it.
