Default Dash Gauges

Might be a stupid question.... but I have done the cruise control install that someone had on this site and when all I had to do was add a pigtail to the wiring that was already in my column... that got me thinking... What else is available in my Jeep, that is a pretty basic X version with no power windows or doors, that I could tap into fairly cheap....

My dash gauges are the ones that only have the digital read out on the right side... the left side has a cover on it. Anyone know if I could just take the dash apart and snap off that cover and get all the digital goodies that other people have?

I am figuring that with as cheap as Chrysler is, that they didn't actually make 2 different gauges but just a plastic cover.....

the mini trip computer is a module on the CAN bus.. it includes a temperature sensor and also a compass antenna you would need to put in.. and then likely you would need to have it starscanned into service as a network node...

Wow, I didn't understand much of that... LOL

So do you think I have that half of the gauge behind a plastic panel?

Is it just a harness that would be needed?
And a flash of the computer?

Meaning there is a small processor that would need to be installed INSIDE your gauge cluster.

The temp sensor is normally behind the grille. The compass module is under the very top of the dash. You would want to purchase and install both of these.

A quick visit to a dealer would be required for them to update the Jeep software to recognize the Temp sensor, Compass and enable the display. Think of it as installing drivers. This would cost anywhere from $60 to whatever the dealer wanted to rip you off for.
