Default Dead JK. Help wanted!

JK won't start. Clicking noise from engine bay and engine fuse box area. Is it the starter? Any input or help is greatly appreciated.

What year is your jeep? my battery died not long after I bought it. I would check the battery , do you have a meter? depending on what year the jeep is , the battery should be under warrantee. You could bring the battery into a auto parts store and they could tell you if its good or not

It's an 09 so I believe everything is under warranty or should be. Don't have a meter. And I don't want to have to tow it 60 miles to the nearest jeep shop. Might try jumping it again or an auto parts store in the morning.

try putting a test light to every fuse in the fuse box under the hood. hopefully its just 50 cent fuse and not a $200 starter/labor. good luck!

Clicking noise is definitely a dead battery. Take the battery in and have it checked. Dead in summertime is usually an alternator problem, or ground wire issue.

If its an auto, then jiggle the selector. It sounds elementary, but many of us replaced or jumped the battery, only to find autos have a sensor that prevents engine from starting when not in Park. It may look in P, but moving the lever forward unsticks the sensor.

Just my two C's. I had this problem about 3 weeks ago. If you have an auto try putting in in neutral and starting if it works the selector switch which is inside the valve body is off kilter. Your not gonna be able to easily replace as its in the transmission. I looked underneath and notice the linkage where it attaches to the trans was loose i actually had it pop off the other day and my gauge read 1st gear but it was in park. So im not sure i the selector itself is bad or the linkage not putting it all the way in park. Either way neutral should help.

This is all based on how many clicks your getting. If you getting a bunch in a row that typically is the battery not getting enough juice to the starter. But a single click means your starter relay is engaging but the vehicle wont allow start as it sees the vehicle in gear because of switch

Hope this helps

Check all connections and have the battery load tested

The battery in my 08 died after a couple years with the same symptoms. Mine would be fine after I jumped it but would never re-start. Installed a new battery and it has been fine ever since.

A meter will tell you straight off whether you have a battery or alternator issues. I was only reading 10 - 10.5 volts with the battery by itself and with alternator about 14 volts.

Thanks for the help. Got a new battery in it this morning and seems to be ok so far. Still going to get the alternator tested to make sure.
