Default Dead Tire

I have about 3k on my JKU and had been getting "low tire pressure" messages from her. Had the tire pumped up but the problem continued and I finally notice that I have a big ass nail in the tire. The nail was in the tread area but the outer tread (no where near the sidewall).

I pulled the spare off and replaced the bad tire and brought the spare into the tire shop. AND.... They tell me they can't repair it, apparently you can only repair a tire with a nail if the hole is in the middle of the tread.

I am still on the stock tires and it was $144 for the new rubber.

Are there new protocols about tires and the nail positioning? I thought it was crazy they couldn't fix it but having a pile of kids I didn't want to be cocky and then drive on an unsafe tire.

I highly recommend the Safety Seal off road tire repair kit.

looking at the kits posted above, I'd say they are probably the re-branded Safety Seal kits. So you may save a few bucks. But they may be cheap knock-offs

safetyseal.com

I have no connection to the company but I have used the kit.

you can hardly get a tire plugged anymore, the liability issues have forced the shops to stop repairing tires this way. I've never had an issue with plugging a tire, but have had hell twice after having tires removed and patched from the inside. Now I plug all my stuff myself.

one leaked, I think poor quality repair, and one balanced like a brick was in the tire. all in all, I won't have another patched.
