Kbb is retail. You need to get access to the black book value. The Black book is what some dealers use but not all.

Try selling it yourself. If you can't get what you want it's no big deal for now if your gonna keep it for a while longer. If it sells then great.

Yeah if I decide to sell I will try to do it on my own. It really pisses me off about the Car Fax thing lowering the value so much. It wasn't even my fault - some idiot teenager clipped my bumper while I was parked at a gas station.

Thanks for all the replies.

If he offers 19,500 and holds tight to the sticker price, no bueno. If he gives 19,500 and works a good deal on the sticker.......

Point is, absolute trade value isn't the only thing at play here. Gotta look at the entire deal, bottom line, out the door.

I grew up around car lots my whole life, NADA was the book of choice back then for a dealer.

It was my understanding that NADA is based off of actual vehicle purchase amounts retrieved from vehicle registration. Where as KBB gets the values from the dealer. A Chevrolet dealer will fudge about how little they paid for a ford from a customer and inflate what they buy back a Chevrolet for. I don't know how true this is, but that is what I was told like 20 years ago.

You think it is tough on a 2010 taking a hit on trade-in value, you ought to try trading in a 2013. I have a 2013 JKU that I wanted to trade on a new Rubicon and local dealer tells me there is no market for a used 2013. He said low miles excellent shape used wranglers are pretty much worthless but for some strange reason new 2013 Rubicons now they are worth top dollar.
