Death wobble? :(
Ive read a few threads of the death wobble some people it happens at 65 some at 70 etc. but my jeep only does it once i brake really hard is this normal "death wobble" related or it might be something else? going to install my lift kit this weekend so i wana know if i should check for anything else while im under the jeep
This great write up from Plan Man will tell you all you need to know about DW..

was looking at other threads about the same issue (different cars) and they all say rotors and it also happens if im going off the freeway speed and even ease on the brake pedal the whole jeep shakes and the steering wheel
Warped rotors would sure make the DW feel much worse, but very unlikely the source of the DW. Just hard shaking? DW is so bad, you have to really slow down suddenly for it to stop. If it's just bad shaking, not to the point of DW, check your rotors, balance, etc.
yeah when driving normally its a smooth ride it only happens when i step on the brakes if going over 40 or 50 mph other than that no shaking at all
Rotors would be the culprit I'd think, especially with vibes when you're braking.

So here I am with my 08 X 2 door driving about 120 miles to Maine, I go over a bump on the interstate at 70 and WTF!!! I thought the front end was coming off the Jeep. I knew at once what it was and hoped it wouldn't happen again on this trip. Then, you guessed it, another bump and I held on for dear life and it didn't stop until I was just about stopped in the breakdown lane. On the way home, one more time and I was prepared for it but still scary. I stopped in a repair shop on my way home, b4 getting on the interstate, to be sure there wasn't something ready to fall off. He checked the track bar and I moved the wheel left and right. He couldn't see anything obvious. I stopped at the dealership near home and made an appointment for Thursday, the first day I was free. I also made an appointment at Firestone for Tuesday early, to get some insight (diagnosos) as to the possible problem so I will have something to compare when the dealership does their thing. I'll be as nervous as a cat in a room of rocking chairs when I next go 65 or 70 mph. I wish I had more confidence in a first time fix at any shop. Tomorrow I'll try and tighten anything obvious. I hope the 3 instances didn't damage anything else.
