Default Deformed KM1s

Hey guys,

I've been meaning to ask about this tire since I got my Jeep last month. The spare tire on the back seems a little deformed and I've never seen anything like it. Parts of the tread protrude further than others. It's quite odd since it's worn, so you'd think it would have worn evenly. Any ideas? Would it ever be safe to use the spare?

It was originally mounted on the front. This happens when they are not rotated often enough. These need to be rotated every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. If you rotate it back in (on the rear) it will smooth out after about 1,000 miles.

+1. I posted this exact same concern a few weeks ago. Happened on my right front tire by 19,000. I never rotated. Now I will. A coworker also has a 2012 JKU. He has 9,000 and you can see the beginning of this on his tires.

Awesome, thanks for the help! I'll rotate them tomorrow!

Someone told me 2013 have a slightly different tread pattern. Anyone know if this is true? Maybe the new pattern will resist this very unusual tread wear.

I believe that the new Rubicons have the KM2s.

that could be from out of balance or bad shocks causing the tire to sskip , not maintaining firm contact with the road

I rotated mine at 1800 miles but then let them go to almost another 17,000 miles without rotating. Put a lot of miles in short time due to activities related to my son graduating Marine boot camp. What I find interesting is my right front was horrible compared to my left. The tread is wacky. Not worn uneven like from one side of the tire to the other, just individual treads are worn to different heights. After I saw this I inspected my coworkers 2012 jkur with around 9,000 miles on it. In his case his left front is showing the wacky tread wear more so than his right side. Bottom line is rotate front to back before this happens.

I do a five tire rearward cross rotation every 4K miles and my KM2s are wearing nice and even.

I had this too on my 2011. It was both front tires. The rears did not have it. I did not do any tire rotation though. I could actually feel a shudder from them through the steering wheel.
