Dude, come on now.. A lot of off road parks encourage you to blaze your own trail, and even if wherever he was doesn't, him venturing off the dirt trail a bit probably did no harm..

ESP shutoff is part of my startup checklist. I never forget to shut that stupid thing off. Why a company would put something like that on a vehicle and not allow you to shut the whole system down is rediculous.

As for only driving on designated trails. That sounds like city talk. We don't cotton to that around here. We drive wherever and whenever we can fit this thing. The difference is we don't spin our tires. That is how we tread lightly. The government doesn't dictate to me where I drive.

Dude, its the people who think they are doing no harm that are actually doing the harm. These are the people that are causing park services are to ban 4x4s from their parks. Its happening everywhere.
If he's in a park that encourages wheelers to get off the trail, then great, no problem. He didn't say where he was wheelin. Not tryin to start an argument here.
Tread Lightly, thats all I'm sayin.

Oh, and sorry for the hijack.

ESP save my ass yesterday. I just put some new 33" SSR Super Swampers on my jeep and lifted it 3". I was taking a sharp turn at about 30 mph, and completely forgot about the lift. Well jeep felt like it was going to tip, then suddenly the ESP kicks in and saves my ass! I had a box of chocolates in my pants after that incident

I suspect (from reading the manual and others comments on this site) that is was the BLD not ESP that saved your bacon. The BLD applies brake to a spinning tire to redirect power to the traction tire, but that brake application requires you to keep the power up or it will bog down. It is a form of traction augmentation that worked for me this winter in snow. The ESP kicks in to keep you going straight, but the BLD come on when it senses the traction loss. That and my LSD rear got me through a lot of slick stuff without engaging 4x4.
