My 2011 has been doing this for the last 10000 miles or so. Dealership won't acknowledge that its a problem.

So again yesterday, I had to cancel my Appt with the stealership due to work issues but am getting ready to head in pretty quick here. But I wanted to post this up.....yesterday I drove all the gas out of my Jeep and refilled with 92 octane and the dieseling/ratteling sound completely went away. Within a mile the noise had dissappeared and even taking off from a stop in 2nd gear there is no noise. To make sure I wasn't just imagining things I had my wife drive (which is the ultimate test as she never listens to the engine while shifting). It is noise free but I will bring it up with the stealership and see whatthere two cents is on it.

It sounds like you guys are experiencing spark knock due to carbon build up.

The best carbon remover I have found is called Yamalube Ring Free. It's made by Yamaha & primarily designed for 2 stroke outboard boat motors, but is safe for 4 stroke motors as well.

I use half a bottle per tank of fuel.

It cost $20 & can be found at Yamaha boat supply dealers or even motorcycle dealers that sell the Yamalube line.

I cleaned my TB with Seafoam, ran 1/3rd bottle in the crank case and 1/3rd in the vacuum line- dropped my idle by nearly 400 rpm with almost NO smoke.

Chrysler combustion chamber cleaner. $10 a bottle and is sprayed directly into the throttle body. Way better than seafoam at reducing carbon deposits

Mine has the rattle noise as well. Mine is mostly in fourth gear but I get it in second and third from time to time. Mine has a diesel sound under the Jeep too. Seems like when a compressor kicks on it does it then shuts off. I am going to try 89 or 91 octane next. Mine is a 2012 with 8003 miles! I want my TJ back......
