differential fluid
Hey Guys,
I changed my front and rear diff fluid the other day and noticed on the drain plugs that there was approx 1/8 inch of what looked like heavy grease on the end of the plug. Is this normal and is this something that is done from the factory or could it be sludge from the oil that accumulated on the plug?
I changed to Mobil 1 and it appears that my gas mileage has increased from 20.3 to 20.8 on my onboard calculator.

That build up on the plug is actually little bits of metal shaving; the plug has a magnet on it to help pull any shaved metal away from the gears themselves. Its nothing to worry about it is pretty common if you haven’t changed your fluids in a while.
cheers

This wasn't pieces of metal shavings it was what appeared to be heavy grease on the end of the plug. I did notice what appeared to be metal that were attached to the magnet on the plug. It was my first change of fluid. Mileage was just under 15,000 miles
