My rear differential is leaking, so i am going to take cover open, inspect my gears and reseal it.

So....my question is...sealant in picture, is it right type that i can use or should i find something else for it ?
It's Permatex No 89112 "2 form-a-gasget" made in USA by Illinois Tool Works. Anyone have any experience with this product ?

haven't used that stuff. Is it high temp?

Personaly I use Permatex Ultra Blue on diff covers.

On second glance that stuff says it's gasket sealant. Which needs to be used with a rubber or cork gasket. Are you going to use a gasket or make one with RTV?

i have heard it used a friend's TJ... it did alright. i'm guessing there is nothing to worry with a JK? i myself would continue to look for an actual gasket.

Hi temp isn't really necessary on the axle cover, but I'll tell you what is. SENSOR SAFE silicone sealant. Make SURE you use sensor safe sealant or you'll likely throw all kinda ABS, ESP and whatever else codes the ABS sensors on the brakes can throw. If it does not SAY sensor safe, DON'T use it.

This is what the service manual says to use:

Diff cover: Apply a 6.35 mm (1/4 in.) bead of Mopar Silicone Rubber Sealant or equivalent to the housing cover.
Trans pan: Reinstall pan using new MoparŽ Silicone Adhesive sealant.

Put on my Riddlers with this stuff. Came supplied with the new covers.

Worked perfect, and no need to use a lubelocker, which is just my opinion.

2k miles not one drop. Also when you fill the diff back up make sure you use LS or limited slip additive if your JK has this in the rearend. Fill it to the bottom of the fill hole on level ground. And watch your torque... I have read many who have broken bolts going to 35lbs... I did mine to 29 ft/lbs which was towards the high end of the recommended spec.
