Default Dimming lights

Hey everyone, I’m new to the forum and I recently got a 2015 wrangler with 50k miles, and had nothing but problems. The dealers were real a**holes and kept doing bad repairs. I don’t want to bring my car back there but everyone once in a while it I have my headlights on and my phone connected to the radio I’ll see my dash dim and my radio shuts off for a second and then goes back to normal, and if my ac is on that’ll get real low too. Not a huge problem but it gets annoying. I was thinking it’s mt alternator but I wanted to see if anyone’s has similar a problem . Thanks !!

I'm just taking a stab in the dark here, but sounds mainly like voltage drop due to a bad or compromised ground. I have never had this problem on the jeep, but do have another vehicle that occasionally experiences a similar voltage drop and it drives me crazy trying to remedy it.

Do you have a volt meter? battery while jeep is off should be no less then 12.3 volts. While the jeep is on your voltage should be no more then 14.7volts.

My guess is your battery is toast (prob original) and maybe the altenator.

There are some cheap voltmeters that plug into the cigarette lighter, or make something similar to check how the voltage there is changing. The 3.8L (2008) varies the charging voltage from 14.7 (cold) to 13.47 (hot) based on the temperature near the battery -- Don't know about the 2015.

Voltage low enough to reset the radio would probably set a code -- If no DTC is present, suspect the issue is confined to the dash/interior, maybe a ground or other connection.
