Default dirty brake pads write up request

Does anyone have a writeup on how to change brake pads? I can't imagine it would be that hard.

There is a write up for the rear pads on the jk.com site. The fronts are much the same except for different torque values.

brakes are so easy.. well for someone with mechaical experience. put parking brake on. jack up one side and remove wheel. then u need to loosen the caliper. 2 bolts. remove pad. push piston back in and install new pads. clean everything up and put back together. just look at it its not to hard. good learning experience.

i have a little over 40k on mine and haven't replaced yet and honestly hadn't looked since it was just inspected a few months ago and wasn't really planning on looking at them until 50k....so this thread got me thinking i might want to take a look at them sooner than later when i rotate my tires with the next oil change....question i have is (i haven't changed brake pads before but it sure seems simple enough) how do i tell if the rotors need replacing....can't say that i looked at them new to tell whether they are in bad shape now....does anyone have pictures of what bad one's look like....i just went out and looked at mine just what i could see from the front side through the wheel and it basically looks like a shiny compact disc....i didn't notice any major gouges or gashes anywhere but if i run my finger across it then it's not baby butt smooth either....i just don't know what i'm looking for.....thanks....

Rotors need to be replaced if they are gouged or warped. When they are gouged it is usually when your brake pads are shot and the rivets are digging grooves in your rotor. You can usually feel them to tell if they are gouged, but if you see rivets poking through your brake pads more than likely you need to replace your rotor.

If you have a warped rotor your Jeep will shake when you apply the brakes. I've only had one vehicle with warped rotors and I bought it that way so I don't know what would have caused this.

Probably didn't help, but I hope it did.

Yea if you don't see any grooves in your rotors and the jeep doesn't shake when you apply the brakes your rotors are fine...

Warped rotors are usually caused by riding and overheating the brakes... Or they can warp if there really hot and you hit a puddle or some other form of water.
