Does this engine normally sound so grainy when accelerating?

Default Does this engine normally sound so grainy when accelerating?

G'day, only recently bought my Jeep 6spd Wrangler with renegade option, the engine is really different to my last Jeep I had 1984 CJ SWB Wrangler Laredo. Super little Jeep.
This new engine sounds so grainy when accelerating and kinda of thumpy when going uphills. Seems to have plenty of go but just seems coarse. Hope its normal.

The 3.8 is just a sorry engine. It gets better fuel economy than the old 4.0 staight six that we all love and miss but it is what it is.

Yes, it is course when accelerating.

Thanks appreciate the feedback, I really like being back in a Jeep after so long, hard to justify buying it, could not stand the flak from she! who must be obeyed if it blew up.

Cheers

You know, I am not sure what you guys mean by grainy? To me it feels pretty right. It reminds me of my old Ranger (loved that truck).

I had a couple sports cars before the Jeep (a Z and a Porsche)... the Jeep is definately different, but I would not say any more/less grainy or coarse than either of them.

The more I think about it though, I have not really hit the gas at all in the Jeep... I drove my Ranger like a truck and I drove my Z like an idiot. Maybe I have to really get the Jeep going to get what you guys are saying?

The old 4 cylinder Izuzu Rodeo... there was one that I would call grainy/coarse. Ungh, I hated borrowing it.

I guess it could be described as grainy. It definitely does not sound smooth when revving up.

I know what you guys are saying. To me it sounds like the heat shielding is vibrating or resonating when the rpms are up. I bet some headders and no heat shielding would get rid of some of that noise.
Plus, a V6 will always have more vibration/ imbalance compared to a straight 6 motor. A straight 6 is by far one of the most balanced motors ever. I have owned 3 of them. A Jeep cherokee, Ford F150 and a Toyota Supra turbo. BTW, the Supra made 624 RWHP.

FWIW.
