Door closing/lock latch problem
I agree, definetly not an air pressure issue, i had the top down over the weekend just because i had to, cold or not. The blasted thing still boings open with the top completely down, my guess would be it isnt air pressure. *L*
The youngest daughter was playing around with the door and it popped open on her so i went and had a look. I tried the door numerous times, definetly a no go. no matter if i tried to just swing it shut, or close it slowly.
Definetly appears to me to be an issue in the latch of some sort, that is where it appears to be hitting.
I cycled the inside door handle once, SHAZAM. door close normally now.
Until the next time.

- Door latch was not tripped closed.
- I examined the latch to the best of my ability, it appears to be fine. it opens and closes fine with the door opened. i can trip it, lock it, open it etc. and it seems to go through all of it's functions without error.
- No seatbelt in the way (it was fully retracted).
- No door strap in the way. It was right where it is supposed to be.
- Not a cabin pressure issue (Top was down)
- I do not have electric locks or windows, so it isnt an issue with that.

Yup, i saw the earlier post about not closing if locked first. The thing is though, mine usually WILL close if the door is locked first, it just has this weird phantom every-so-often problem of not closing when locked. grrrr....

I originally had an appt tonight for it, i had it changed to first thing this am, i went and picked it up on my lunch break. They cant find anything wrong with it. Big surprise there... neither can I. The service tech looked as exasperated as i feel. I think he believes it does it, he just can't reproduce it.

My YJ's passenger door has to be slammed shut or else it sticks out from the body. It closes but not fully unless slammed shut. Dont know but sounds better than having the door pop open.
Mine does that too sometimes. But it is usually the passenger front door or the tailgate. I have only had the drivers door do it to me twice. It seemed to close better if I held the door all the way and pushed it shut all the way.
I figured I would give it a couple of months and see if it smooths itself out.

While at the Jeep dealership yesterday, I locked the doors on a JK, then swung the door shut. Closed and latched just fine. Opened and tried it again, closed just fine.

So does mine, when everyone is looking, or you want it to act up... but as soon as no one is looking... *boing*
I thought this was just me! I have had the same problem with only the drivers door. If I keep my hand on the door while closing it (only in locked position) it will close, but if I just slam it 75% of the time it will bounce back open.
Has anyone found a fix for this yet?
Thought I was going nuts!!!!
While I am here does anyone have a squeak in the dash in the center console. While I am switching gears on 6 spd. at higher revs just before changing into next gear I have a squeak that I can't seem to find?

Nope, no fix that i know of.
1. The stealer replaced the latch in the door. No changes.
2. They pulled it back out, ran it through the parts cleaner to strip off all the factory extra heavy thick lube-goo and relubed it with White Lith. grease. No changes.
I have paid attention to it, and on occasion the seatbelt webbing gets caught over the door post, but that isnt the problem. It does it without that in the way. As with yours, if i hold the door and push it closed, it works flawlessly. If i forget and swing it shut, sometimes it just springs back open.
REALLY f#&*^$#*@& irritating as my door now has chips on the edge from hitting other stuff in the parking lot. Not to mention i leave the thing wide open for whomever or whatever wishes to crawl inside.
Don't have a JK yet but a thought on this one is opening up the door panel and tightening up the linkages that go from the inside handle to the latch assembly ( a tighter bend in the linkage) and also looking at the other linkages in there for slop. just a thought
