Default Doors Lock Automatically

Hope someone can help me.
This has happened twice now.
Up here in Montreal, with the cold weather and all, I'll let my JK run for 5 minutes before I leave for work.
BUT...when I go to get into the jeep, the doors are locked with the engine still running!!!
Luckily I was home and had my spare set of keys.
Has anyone else experienced this "ghostly" locking of the doors while the motor is running?
And would anyone have a helpful solution aside from carrying two sets of keys.?

I haven't read any TSB on this.

Thanks

I read on another forum, that this has happened to another person. I also picked up the idea from another person on the forum, to make a spare generic key - that only opens the doors (doesn't have the "chip" to start the engine - also sets off the alarm if used to open the doors), and I've hid it in the engine compartment. So if/when I am ever locked out, I won't have to wait to be rescued.

Yeh, someone went in to buy coffee and came back to locked doors. Check you manual to see if there is a way to overide it. I think there is a way to stop them from locking when you are driving.

Default Locked Out

The doors are not locking automatically. What is happening is that due to the extremely poor design of the door lock handles, it is very easy to accidently brush against the round door lock handle and lock the door. This can happen when you manually open the door handle and brush against the round door lock handle with your hand. I locked myself out several times when I first bought my JK until I figured out that I was accidently pushing the door lock handle with my arm as I exited the jeep.

The genius at Chrysler who designed the lock handle assembly should be fired.

I have had mine automatically lock one time. I was mtn biking and went to put my street shoes into the truck and it was locked. Luckily, I had the keys in my pocket. It has only done it once and it was 78 degrees outside so I don't think it is temp related. One time I hit the unlock button and the radio came on also. HAs only done that once also.

I'm not quite sure how true this is but it is possible to bump the lock. I will open the passenger door for my wife to get in and I normally hand her the keys and shut her door. She starts the Jeep and by the time I get around to the drivers door, I'm always locked out. She has to hit the power locks to let me in.

Default It happened to me

It happened to me in the middle of the desert. After a while, my wife admitted that she was trying to open the gate. Didn't have the spare key...
With a hardtop on, everything locked...
Luckily we were not alone. It’s good to have friends around.

On the 2008 models, the lock button no longer sticks out, it is inverted and also has the "lock" symbol embossed in the plastic.

I remember someone posting a while ago saying that they had to have their door panels swapped out for a warranty issue (on a 2007 model) and they ended up getting the newer style door handles.

Ah, found the thread here with a pic: https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...2008+door+lock
