Default Dramatic MPG Drop

I switched out my stock 255/75/17's for a set of Maxxis Bighorn 285/70/17's. Since doing this about two weeks ago I have seen a nearly 2 1/2 mpg loss. That's a huge loss for such a little change, and I definitely didn't expect a drop like that. Any else experiencing the same thing?

That's about what I saw when I went to 33's and removing the air dam but as noted, it's relative.. I didn't recal the speedo yet so I know it's not accurate for the tire size

when I went to a bigger tire... From the stock 225/75/16 to my 265/70/17's my speedo and odometer are both now off by 10%.

So speedo says 55mph but gps says im doing 60. Odometer says .9 miles travelled, but i really travel 1.0.

So when manually calculating fuel economy and accounting for my wrong odometer reading, my drop in economy wasnt much at all compared to what the jeeps calculator would have me believe.

I'm glad to hear that because after doing a couple trails today I'm down to 14.4 mpg. Was at about 18.1 before tire change, was thinking after today I should have just went to 35's. :p

Im actually at more like 4 mpg lower after todays trails. I can understand a little drop, but that much by going up 3/4" on the tire size. Geesh, I know they are a little heavier but come on.

Shit I went from 18 mpg with 32" stockers to 10 mpg with 35" KM2's. I regeared and got an AEV Procal an back to 14.5 mpg's city. Get used to losing mpg's with every armor mod and upsize in tires.

A-Larger, heavier tires = engine has to work harder to turn the tires.

B-Like said before, are you calculating the difference in indicated speed to actual speed into that mpg? (The computer does NOT do this without being reprogrammed.)

C-When you say trail and mpg you shouldn't be including trail time. Slow speed work and fast wheel spinning will just suck fuel. You'll get horrible mpg no matter what.

D-Are you figuring this out by hand (miles driven / amount of fuel used = mpg) or the stock computer?

The 2 1/2 mpg drop is calculated with no trails and actual miles driven vs. amount of fuel used.
