Default Drive shaft

I recently tore the dust boot to my front drive shaft. the one between the front diff and gear box that allows the drive shaft to extend. Since i have a 2 1/2 spacer lift the warrenty wont cover it. my question is has anyone ordered this part before and if so can you post a part #. Dealer said the only way to get this part is with a new drive shaft. I found a strut boot cover almost identical to it. It will work for now but would like to have factory original part instead.

Can't you pull out the spacer lift and have the dealer do the work then put the lift back in?

If it ends up that you do need to pay for it yourself AND you can only get it with a driveshaft i would recommend getting an aftermarket shaft rather than a stock one.

well i did think of removing the lift as a last resort. I just hate dealing with the dealer ship on anything. Most of the time thay have no idea what youre talking about or what part you need then they give you crap about the warrenty and then they take forever to complete the job. I guess i will stick to the strut cover for now.

Perhaps you should shop around at different dealerships. I have a 4" lift and 35's. The same thing happened to me after I installed my lift and took it on a trail. I took it to a dealer I didn't even buy the jeep from and they replaced the driveshaft.... no ?'s asked.

If the dealer is worth a crap, they know you're going to mod this vehicle and actually use it. They will also realize that if they treat you right you may actually return when your jeep is out of warranty for work.

That is a very common problem on lifted JKs with the auto tranny. I had a local driveline shop put a generic one on for $11, but it tore also. The solution is to replace the front driveshaft with an aftermarket one. Good luck.

Thanks for the feed back. well at least i know im not the only one that has had this problem. And my rubicon is automatic. I did notice that the clearance was close before i put on my 2 1/2 spacers but for it to tare the boot of is to close for comfort. That means that at some point during flex the shaft comes within a 1/4 in of the tranny. That makes me wonder what kind of problems i mite have when i decide to install a 5 in lift with 37's. I know the shaft is more then likely going to hit the skid plate that covers the tranny.

What color are your lift spacers? If they're black, the retards at the dealer might not even notice them.

I just noticed mine and I expirenced the same thing this weekend. However, I did notch out the cross member prior to wheeling thinking that would prevent driveshaft problems. I suppose it catches somewhere else?

Yes if you have an automatic tranny. It will get cought up on you automatic tranny pan. It has about a 1 in bump on it that will allow the boot clamp to get hung up and twist youre boot in half.

I replaced both of mine when I riped the front drive shaft boot.
