Default driving with no front-axle shafts and gears. Is it okay?

I snapped a U-joint of stock dana-30 axle-shaft while doing some rock crawling last weekend. I am currently waiting for a new axle shaft to be shipped; and in the meantime, I was wondering if it would be safe to pull the gears and stock shafts from the front axle.

I will obviously not do any fourwheeling with my jeep in this condition, but I was wondering if it would be safe to commute in my jeep if I did this. Would pulling the gears and shafts do any damage?

Thanks,
Mike

not sure on the JK but on the solid front axle dodges you need to put the stub shafts back in the bearing and tighten the nut or else the hub bearing can come apart.

I would to be safe or you'll be buying two front bearings
