The theory is that the rubbing from movement will tear/hurt the fabric.

It's more like the rear area is usless as tits on a bull when the soft top is in there.
It helps in shipping the machine that way but you've got to get it out if you want to use the space that you bought the unlimited for in the first place.
And yes, some long time Jeep owners with real lives and more than one Jeep need five doors and aren't buying phoney Hummers to get them.
