E-Brake Fix?
so i went to pull my ebrake up and next thing you know there is a loud snap and the handle comes flying to the up position. well after taking off everything to find the problem, i found that the big coiled clock spring on the ebrake mechanism broke at the end and is no longer attached to the ebrake handle.. now........ does anyone know if that can be replaced or will i have to buy a new ebrake mechanism? anyone have this happen?
i almost feel like its a defect becaz there is not a lot of tenion that is on it and i dont even pull my ebrake up that hard or fast.. just out of no where...

I know this is an old thread, but this just happened to me today. I was wondering if anyone fixed this themselves or if you took it to the stealership, how much was the cost? My jeep is out of warranty. That's why I ask how much. Thanks.
This is my first post so I hope it's helpful. I have been through 2 parking brakes, and finally tried fix of my own. The same spring breaks on the handle, at the same location yours broke. The clutch spring is supposed to pick up any slack in the cables, but does not appear to do its job very well.
I took pictures after the repair, so can't provide exact measurements on metal length.
Not sure how long your parking brake lasted, mine was around 8 months each.
What i did was remove the broken clutch spring, and replaced it using 1/2" steel wrapped around the drum.
Welded an arm to the handle, and used an allen head bolt to clamp it tight on the drum. It cannot be welded to the drum, because that's pretty much the only adjustment available for the handle.
The pin was a problem, and needed to be welded back to the handle on drivers side, not planning to fix it again so I'm not worried. It can be popped out using a hammer and punch.
The slot on the passenger side of the pin pinches the tension spring for the cables, needs to be opened up to help release the spring. Doesn't do much after all the welding, realized it after final assembly.
steel was 1/2" x 1/8" thick, bends easy, little bit of heat helps. I wrapped it around a bar and bent up tabs to secure using the bolt. The bar was around the same size of the drum, just need something to round out the clamp.
Installed this way for 3 months, no problems.
