Default EGR Valve

The EGR in my 2011 Sahara went bad a few months back. I ordered a replacement and installed. I’ve put about 5,000 miles on it since and the check engine light returned. Code read EGR valve although there are no obvious symptoms. Drove a few days and light went off. Drove a few days, light came on again. Repeat a couple of more times.

What could be the reason for an intermittent check engine light for the EGR?

What brand part did you put in? Did you install new gaskets (both the cork and the metal) when you put the new part in? Have you verified that the bolts are tight? I've fallen victim to all three scenarios so I'd start there and see what we've got.

After buying a decent brand, installing new gaskets with the new parts, and verifying that the bolts are tight- I've had zero issues.

I purchased the Standard Motors EGR valve. I included the new gaskets on install.

Given the mileage and new gaskets, my first step would be to tighten up all of the bolts and see what you get. I have had a defective unit go bad in short order so I went with the more expensive Napa brand afterwards. It eventually failed (or may have been loose, but it was presenting as other conditions) so I went back to the house brand from Advance Auto and it's been decent.....until the bolts loosened up. Tighten the bolts and it's been golden.
