Default EGR Valve Backorder

Just talked to one of the local dealer's service department. The guy there said they've had EGR valves on backorder since March. He checked something else and saw where there were 7000 on backorder and the supplier is supposed to ship 500 in May. Ugh.

If there are that many that have gone bad, why isn't there some sort of recall?

Mine went out on may 1 and i was told it was backordered and would take at lease a month to get. The valve is problem on more than just 3.8 Jeeps.

I'm not sure how much the part is by itself but I think they quoted me $368 for parts and labor.

WOW. what is that? Like 4 hours labor?

Mark Doiron posted a thread with photos of how to change the EGR approaching from the wheel well.

I googled autozone, says they have a Duralast EGR in stock that fits. $77 plus shipping.

*EDIT I just read through that other thread. According to Kozmotoo, the EGR is or could be covered under the Fed emission warranty..... worth investigating.

3.8L JK EGR Valve

Old part number: 04861674AD
New part number: 4593896AB, $85 - $115
Even the online aftermarket parts stores don't have them.
None of the local parts stores can get one, either.

Has anyone had success taking theirs apart and cleaning it up? I think what usually causes them to fail is crap from the exhaust.
When mine goes out, I'll try to take it off and fix it.

Default Same Here - in NJ

I was told mine was an electrical problem with the EGR, they expect to have the part by 6/7/2012.

Question, Can I do any damage run the jeep that way? The jeep seems to run fine, just the CEL is on.

Thanks

Tom

About a year and a half ago I had mine replaced under warranty. The only way I knew it was bad was due I an idiot lite on the dash. I brought it to the dealer and they read the code. No driving difference in my case
