Default electric fan replacement

Well I just killed my second fan from a bit of minor mudding, well, it wasn't minor, but still. I am aware that the older jeeps have options to change out the electric fan with a mechanical version from other vehicles. Has anyone thought about this, done it, etc. and what can you see as obstacles? I am in the process of putting in a kill switch to prevent it propellering next time, but even with that the after effects are still likely to kill it again. And btw, the stealership refused to fix it the first time so from now on the cost is mine to bear.

Thanks,

J

ya might try to find an old fan clutch from a tj and see if the holes line up to the pulley on yer JK water pump. that'd be a start.
