Alright so it wouldn't have much to do with oil consumption? Cus I have a code for the knock sensor circuit

Dont feel bad. Mine is ticking too. I think it might have to do with the timing belt but im not going to rip it apart. Also i did run it almost dry one time. I think it could be i killed a hydro lifter. Myabe but who knows. Ive been running with the tick for over a year now. 15k+ miles and still offroad. no porblems. but i have made it a habbit to check the oil every time i put fuel in. I burn about a qt every 300k. not too bad but i do tow a 18ft boat around in the summer. I have been thinking about doing the oil pump but thats for another day. Im in vegas so every seal dies after about 2 years out here. I did both the pan seal and the drop down seal. pretty easy to do. You have to pull the pan first and then pul the drop down. No i didnt go spend money on a seal either. RTV that thing. let it dry for 20 mins or so then bolt it back on. No more leaks at all.

Im glad to know I'm not the only one, and speaking of the timing belt that makes a whole different tick but much less significant on my engine too. I don't tow anything but I can't bring myself to keep the jeep out of the woods/mud, it's held up alright for the past week or so after the bad knock went away. Hopefully I have as much luck as you and it will stay running alright for a while. I've started checking the oil on a daily basis as well, hasn't been long enough to know how much it burns and how often though. Glad to hear that the pan gasket isn't a total PITA too. That was my next task after the PCV. Thanks for the input.

Yes the pans are quite easy. Almost stupid easy. It takes longer to scrape off the old gasket then anything. And you get a good look at the bottom end of your motor. Side note. I do have the 6 speed so there was a block between the motor and the trany I also had to remove. But that's it. Once you do the PVC valve hit me up. Odds are ill do that too. It's cheap enough might as well

That a relief to know, I have the 6 speed too and there seems to be a little oil film around that block you mentioned, but I'm assuming that would be caused by a bad gasket as well. I should be getting the PCV in the mail soon so I'll let you know how that goes

Awesome. Im trying to think if there is any other problem i ran in to with the oil pan. Not really but depending on how you wheel and how many miles you have on your rig might as well change out the trany fluid too. Sucks that its 1.5 qts and its 23 bucks a qt from the dealer. But its quite easy. Transfer case is just ATF fluid, even easier. Front and rear diff you can do with out even pulling the cover off. I mean if your going to drop the pan and the seal is bad might as well drail all the blood out of the poor baby and fill her up with the good stuff too.

I've been meaning to do the tranny fluid for a while now but the exhaust runs right under the drain plug so I haven't been able to figure out how to even get the plug out without dropping the whole exhaust. If you have any advice on that I'd appreciate it. I've done the diffs before but that was a while ago, id say its time for some nice clean royal purple in there. But yeah if I'm under there doin the pan then it's a perfect time to drain and refill everything else

Hubby. If I remember correctly there is a how to guide that shows how to make a tool to get the plug out. I was swapping out the headers on mine when I changed it. Yeah I don't know who did that with the pipe but it's like they ment to. It sounds stupid but try aluminium foil and make a funnel out of it. Should work. Easy to throw away and should keep the pipes clean. Maybe a funnel of the right size might do it. This is one of those times to get creative I guess.
