Default Engine oil

I've read putting in a heavier oil will stop the JK from burning off oil 5w30 or even 10w30. I live in Ontario so I need 5w20 for cold starts but I'm thinking 10w30 for the summer. Anyone try this? And what is you experience. Also what is the best type of oil filter? Oh and I only use synthetic and change every 5000 to 8000 km whenever the wife lets me use the garage. Crap keeps piling up in there for some reason.

Best type of oil filter is debatable but i try to go with the ones that have the highest single and multipass efficency.

Change your PCV valve first if you have not done so. Get one from the dealer. I have been told the after market ones can b bad. Not expensive, under $15. Just did this and seems to be working fret.

Im running 5w30 for winter, then will go with 10w30 for the summer. It does help. A pcv change is a good idea just to rule it out, and as far as filters, I stick with Mopar.

I use engine oil recommendations from Chrysler , filter from Chysler , use the semi-synthetic oil...
