Default Error Code P1776 on '08 X 4dr

Hey guys,

Went out to Uwharrie Nat. Forest to do some wheeling. I have a 08 Jk X Unlimited Automatic 4dr. I stayed mostly in Drive & 4wd Hi with the occasional 4lo in 1st. It was a bit sloppy and we did play in a mud puddle splashing muddy water and slop over the hood and roof. Once I was done and back on pavement my engine light came on and the transmission automatically shifted in to 2nd.

I know because I manually shift it to second and back to drive with no difference.

I have searched and searched and find plenty of threads on what error code P1776 means for an 08 JK, but nothing describing what the issue means or any details. I know based on the thread here at Jk-Forum that it is a transmission error. However, I have a few more questions

1. What does: P1776 - Solenoid Switch Valve Latched In Lr Position mean?

2. Is that something that is an easy fix?

3. If so, is there a thread or information that I can research to fix it?

4. If it is still under warranty, would it just be easier to take back to the dealer?

Any help is appreciated. Still learning about my jeep as this is my first one and I am trying to learn on my own, but there seems to be a lack of info on this particular case.

I should mention that when it shifts to second it will not shift any higher. Secondly, it has an estimated 1 min delay before it kicks back down to second. Before that happens is shifts normally.

Thanks!!

You're answer provided no help. I am still having the problem, I disconnected the battery and reconnected it and it cleared the Dash light for a few minutes but then it came back on.

Maybe you could tackle some of the other questions i asked or is the answer to those "buy a cooler"

You are going to take it to the dealer under warranty, right?

But, to give some insight:

Set Condition:
Must be in partial or full Electronically Modulated Converter Clutch (EMCC). The DTC is set if Low/Reverse pressure is detected high for the fourth time.

Possible Causes

RELATED DTC P0841 PRESENT (LR Pressure Switch Rationality)

DTC EVENT DATA SHOWS TRS CODE TR2 - SHIFT LEVER OR MANUAL CONTROL VALVE IN AN INVALID POSITION

SHIFTER CABLE OUT OF ADJUSTMENT

SOLENOID SWITCH VALVE STICKING IN ITS BORE

(T50) L/R PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT OPEN

(T50) L/R PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND

(T50) L/R PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO VOLTAGE

VALVE BODY

POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE

Taking it to the dealer was one of the options he listed. I have a feeling he will do that, but just wants to have a little knowledge before he gets there.

Thank you for reading my post. The dealer is where it is going and yes I do agree, its telling me something is wrong. That much I figured out when the transmission shifted back down to second and wouldn't shift up again.

Thanks to ronjenx for trying to explain it. It was a bit technical and over my head, but at least I have some information that I can now research.

I don't claim to understand it all, either.
