Default ESP Delay - And antother weird thing that happened

2010 Unlimited Sport - 6sp - 23S package

I don't have ESP disabled, started up my JEEP, backed out of the garage, and drove down my driveway where there is a patch of ice at the bottom of the driveway, that ends where the road starts.

I'm rolling about 2-3 mph, clear the ice, no slipping, drive onto the road, and about two seconds later, ESP kicks in, symbol lights up on the dash, with acceleration almost coming to a full stop, till I mash the gas pedal and off I go.

Anyone experience this delay with ESP?

Is this delay normal or am I asking for too much of ESP 'full on' mode in terms of response time?

Another weird thing happen, but this time going up my driveway: lost complete forward motion, Jeep just stopped and stalled while in first gear...didn't feel like it popped out of first gear. Brake assist came on, with the clutch in, foot off the brake, I didn't roll backwards. Started the Jeep up, brake assist still on, gave her some gas, and continued on.

Does Brake Assist works without the Jeep running?

When the Jeep does pop out of first gear, do you guys find yourself in neutral or between gears like 1st or 2nd (would the Jeep think you're in neutral at this point or hung up in some pseudo gear?).

Since so much stuff in our Jeeps are computer controlled, is it worth resetting the computer (or PCM, whatever you want to call it?), specifically with the goal of 'resetting' ESP to clear the delay issue...if this is really a issue at all?

If so, can you still do a computer reset by disconnecting the negative battery cable and then turning the key to full on for about 60 seconds?

I never got that much delay in the esp, but I can say that most of the time when I feel the jeep is loosing traction the esp kick in just before me. I have also observed some wheel spin 1 or 2 turns before it kick in. over all I'll say it can take the esp up to 1 second before it do a move, but still a great tool to loose your slippery driving reflex.

Default ESP - Going Up Hill and Hitting Black Ice

Update:

Come to realize when I lost traction going up my driveway and stalling, it was because I was going up hill slowly in 1st gear and hit black Ice.

ESP kicked in and I didn't react fast enough by flooring it to maintain acceleration and forward movement, which I now do when there is still some ice on the driveway....I may crawl up under 5mph with the gas pedal mashed to the floor, going sideways, but at least I make it up to the top of the driveway (having to be careful to let up on the gas soon enough and not drive through my closed garage door)

I could see where above situation can be dangerous in similar conditions in traffic and stalling...I know I wouldn't be fast enough to throw it in 4-Hi while fighting ESP at the same time....wonder how ESP would react to this?

Gonna try the uphill driveway/black ice crawl with ESP either partially or fully disabled to see what results in better traction.

FWIW, we have plenty of salt down at the crest of the driveway where the black ice usually accumulates....need a good 'warm' rainstorm to wash down that area.

just a word of advice when you go in to 4 wd make sure front and back axels go at the same speed or your T-case won't love it

your JK stopped because it lost traction... turning off the traction control in that situation is the better choice..

traction control IMO stinks at low speeds.. its a great help on the highway to keep you going straight.
