Default Factory Black Paint

It is just me or is it you too? I bought a Black 2014 Jeep Unlimited and to me the paint seems to me questionable. At fist look it look fine. But the more I wash it I find spots that are questionable. I have found light spots under the rail where the hard top sit (pretty noticeable when the top is off but not so visible when the top is on). Also around some of the hinges it seem light. And the part the bugs me the most it seem to me like it has a lot of orange peel in it. Am I just being picky or does Jeep need to work on their painting techniques?

Mine has a considerable amount of orange peel too, but the cure for light coats of paint is to get a bright color that won't show it.

I work across the street from a Jeep dealer and I am good friends with the body shop manager. He told me that they are all like that. They don't paint the parts separate they put the whole thing together first for the most part, so around hinges, bumpers, etc don't get coated all the way. He said people ask him that all the time. I have a 2013 Sahara Black, so I feel your pain.

X2. Atleast not another jeep. I know they look good, but they looks like hell after some trail riding. If I did to my black 07 what I've done with my orange 2012, it'd look like a zebra

X3 I wanted black and found rescue green. Glad I did after pin striping it once and seeing a friends black look zebra-ish.

We shouldn't have to change color to fix a problem. We pay a lot of money for these Jeeps...

The paint on my '07 is thin -- like any new vehicle... but I certainly don't have any bad areas on the paint job. FWIW.
