what goes in hole in the intake hose where it hooks to the motor, its about 1.5in back from the clamp on the right side

Intake air temp is my guess, but that is about 1.5" forward of the clamp, and on the left side on the duct.

i bet my right is your left
im standing in front

is this something that has to be there
i bought the jeep used and replaced the cai with factory stuff and dont see anything to put in this hole

The computer uses that information to set fueling, etc.
If yours is gone, I am surprised there is no MIL illuminated.
Look for a loose wire harness with an empty connector on the end.

do aftermarket intake systems use this
mine was a p.o.s tube with a cone filter on the end
i cant find anything
can i just plug it

If everything is running fine, plug the hole for now so no unfiltered air gets in the engine.
You need to find the temp sensor and harness, though. Since you have no codes or warning lights on, it is probably dangling in the engine compartment somewhere, still hooked up to the sensor.

it was zipptied to a aluminum line that runs toward the front right headlight and the sensor was tucked in behind the fender. looked very factory
