I think having the manual is a good thing and it's stupid that jeep is so worried about saving a buck they leave it out till you request it.... Good luck!
I don't know what happen with the rest of my post. But let me finish it. In Oct 2010 i bought a new 2010 JK 4dr. I when to techauthority.com to order the factory service manual, but couldn't find one for 2010, they had 2007-09 manuals but no 2010. So i figured it's new i'll wait. I checked 2 weeks ago and still no FSM. So i call Jeep to get the Owners Manual(so i can have it in the jeep) and asked about the FSM. They said its not available and there's no eta on it. WTH!?? There not much different from the 09"s except for the hard/soft top upgrades. So i sent an email to Jeep about it. The next day i had a csa from Jeep asked me some more questions about it and that she'll get back to me about it.( i was suprise they called so quick) Well the next day she called, and what she was told was Jeep wont release new FSM until the warranty is expired. WTF!!!!!???? Hell i'm going to blow through the 36k warranty by next april the way i'm going. So i asked When/how did this happen, all she could tell me was the issues Chrylser had (the bailout/fiat) and that what had change. Then i asked about useing the 09 FSM and she tell me either way. So ALL YOU 2010 JK GUYS/GIRLS HAVE TO WAIT TO 2013 TO GET ONE. So should i buy 09 FSM and be done with it or wait
I have no way to know for sure, but I suspect, mechanically, the '09 manual will work for you. Any difference would be in the explanations of how the various programmed features work.
If I were in your situation, and facing no other choice, I would get the '09 factory service manual on CD.
I loaded my '08 CD onto my hard drive, and run it from there, (much faster than running off the CD). In Windows 7, the entire CD gets indexed for extremely fast searching.
When the 2010 CD comes out, you could sell the '09 to someone with an '09.
