Have the front and back Mopar bumpers with the tire carrier and Warn 9.5 i winch in front, total empty weight with full fule, a little over 5100#,s...heaviest Mopar springs in front...have made three long trips with all camping gear and two people so weight would be well over 5500#s... standard transmission...transmission, once you learn ratios, extremely useful in mountains, engine has performed well with plenty of power, torque, off road, very good...highway pickup very good...overall mileage 18.5...the engine performance was much improved after about 2000 miles...now running Magic Purple 5w-20 and use about 3/4 cup of oil in 3000 miles...buy the way, engine capacity is 5.5 quarts...have also changed all other drivetrain fluids to synthetic...have 25 years of experience with the 4.0 in two cj5's and this one performs better...very pleased with this Jeep, absolutely no complaints...delivered January 19, 2007 and did recall for engine stall...

I have a '95 Cherokee Sport 5spd 4.0HO. Told my wife we'd get rid of it if we got the '08 4dr Wrangler but I'm having second thoughts

It has 148K miles, but runs like a top. No rust, no leaks, a few very small dents, no accidents and the a/c will blow you out of the car ( a very big plus here in FL)

It definately has a better (lower?) 4LO than the '08 but I think I agree with you that the new engine seems more refined. I just hope it is as reliable.

I would be disappointed with the 3.8L if I weren't getting steady 21+mpg (hand calc). This is a big improvement over my TJ. I am not a fan of the engine when I'm up to speed and need to hit the throttle to make a pass, the revs jump but it just doesn't seem the surge of power follows. I had the Jeep out in Colorado over the summer and all I can say is it is a good thing the auto tranny has the overdrive de-selector, it was essential at altitude in the mountains. Down the road a CAI and possibly exhaust should liven it up a bit.

I'm getting about 18.5-20.0 mixed city driving with a stock Rubi... why is your mileage that low?

I've rarely experienced a lack of power that you're talking about and have not experienced it all since the last recall flash that I had.

I get 19-22 with VERY mixed driving (I drive up and down a mountain every day) with a stock X. I guess I must have a lighter foot? :P) Oh, and it IS a manual, which helps, but it shouldn't have that huge of a difference.

I hope you guys are right about mileage improving with break-in because i got roughly about 12-13 mpg on my first tank of gas.

I put 35's and 2.5" lift on at 13 miles when new. Dealer had filled her up and I was "dinging" at 215 miles. 50 bucks later ($2.97 a gal) and she still wasn't full. So basically, I used more than 50 bones in juice to travel a bit more than 220 miles (accounting for the larger tires with no adjustment on the computer).

Wife did the math and instructed me to put my toy away for the winter. She said used up all my Jeep funds on aftermarket "crap" (her words) and was SOL for gas money.

You're wrong. If your mileage never improved from your first tankful, and you regularly get 15-17 MPG but once got 19 MPG, then that's an improvement, and you're mistaken.

Default Hemi 5.7l Mds

Having experience running the 5.7L Hemi MDS in my Magnum R/T AWD that weighs in at 4350lbs unloaded! I would say the 3.8L is getting pretty good mileage for the aerodyanmics & gearing.

With my Magnum with the Hemi yes it was a rocket from 0-60MPH - 5.3secs and would spank many sports cars. However, when you gun it,let it idle in traffic, have a load, going up hills or driving under 25MPH the MDS will kick out and you would be running on all 8 cylinders. It took till about 20,000 miles till I really did see a fuel mileage bump. On avg. I would see about 13.5 to 15 MPG city depending on how spirited you wanted to be, it was tough as you wanted to hear the throaty growl and dual exhaust!

On highway if it was flat, no head wind I would see regularly 23 to 24 MPG. However, The MDS had certain spots where you would get really good mileage or it would drop. 50 to 60 MPH was really good, 60 to 65 MPH would kind of drop then 65 to 85 it would be better. However, anything over 85mph it would drop like a brick house! Any hill climbing you will see the MPG drop to about 18MPG here in the Rocky & Selkirk mountains. The Hemi 5.7L MDS is a great motor as I have currenlty 40,000 miles with no issues and it does reduce fuel consumption to a point, but you have to really baby it to get that great mileage.....which is near impossible with 340HP under the hood!

I have yet to get my Jeep from the dealership but, from test drives it is not bad for a V6 and the mileage people are getting is really good for a V6 Gasser and you have the off-road capabilities like no other. Getting into a Jeep with experience behind a Hemi and CTD - chipped will seem a bit depressing for acceleration and passing, but I am buying our Jeep Wrangler to have some fun and do some serious 4x4ing. I will love & hoping they have some performance chips to increase the power and mileage & I will be all over that!

If a person wants a spirited 4x4, I would not even look at V8 gasser.....I would be looking at getting a Diesel (CTD) and chip it up, add propane injection, upgrade the turbo and exhaust and you will blow away Vipers if you want and on top of it you will get decent fuel mileage & longer life!.

I have a JK Sahara 4dr, all stock, and my mileage doesn't seem to be as good as most everyone else here.

I have around 750 miles on it so far, but my mileage is consistently around 14.5 mpg. It's a bit discouraging since my last cars have been:

2dr manual Toyota Tercel with no a/c
Toyota Corolla
Toyta Matrix.

I'm obviously now having some sticker shock at the pump, but I still am having more fun driving the Jeep that I have with any other car.

I hope my mileage improves. I rarely run the A/C and don't really have a lead foot. I actually try to baby it. But I do mostly city driving. I wonder if that's the difference.
