Have you seen a Quik fist fail because of an accident. I have seen numerous Quik fists, different models, sizes, all holding different objects with different weights, hold up no problem in an accident that destroyed the front half of a fire truck frame and cab. The mounts were mounted in the cab and in cabinets. Not saying they can't fail cause we all know anything can fail.

The only type you should carry on your rig without going bananas is a dry chem ABC which is used for pretty much everything but magnesium fires. Anything you'll need to use it for on the trail a dry chem will cover.

I keep a 2.5 gallon water can in my rig. I think it's the best because I can put the fire out before leaving the beach and then refill it when I get home.

That will work great for an engine fire you have to hover over while pouring it on top or on a fire underneath the jeep.

i guess you don't know what a water can is? its 2.5 gallons pressurized to 100psi. It shoots farther then a dry chem ABC will.

Yes I have, a water can is for class A fires only. I was simple correcting the guys saying you had to " hover and pour the water on the fire"

As was stated dry chem extinguishers are very good for automobiles fires, however one must remember that they are very corrosive to metal and electrical connections and components, therefor if used a quick cleanup is required. That said it is better to use now and clean up after, rather then to let it burn. There is however an alternative to dry chem. H3R Performence has a good HalGuard extinguisher that comes in 1.4 and 2.5 pounders. The cost is somewhat more than a dry chem, but there is no cleanup needed after use, as it is not corrosive.
