I changed my oil at 650 miles and the filter had bits of metal filings in it. I changed it again at 2,000 miles and then at 4,000 miles and from then on at every 6 months. I only put about 7,000 miles on it per year so 6 months is now my oil change interval. The oil and filter never had any evidence of metal bits in it after that first oil change so I highly recommend changing the oil on a new JK before it hits 1,000 miles based on my experience.

I did my first oil chg at 1000 miles because it was a new motor and any metal bits from the motor first being broke in; better to be safe then sorry. After that that every 6 months or when I hit the mileage. Matter of fact I am taking mine in today for a oil chg.

Changing the oil every 6 months regardless of mileage is done because if the vehicle is driven only for short/low mileage trips then it doesn't get hot enough to burn off moisture and absorbed fuel in the oil, causing acid formation. If you took one or two trips to total the 450 miles, then there would be no reason to change the oil yet. If it was a series of small trips, change the oil and filter....

This is my 3rd JK and I will be getting my oil changed soon as I have reached the 1000 mi mark. Is it due...no, but the first one is free from the dealer so why not. The other two that I have owned were both done at the 1000mi mark too.
