Default Five Year Inspection

Just got the five year inspection completed this past weekend to keep the lifetime warranty up to date. Had the work completed at Dave Dennis Jeep in Beavercreek, Ohio. They replaced upper and lower intake gaskets at no charge. Great service department that didn't try to pressure me into a bunch of service I did not need. Highly recommend!

Glad you had a good experience. I also had a good experience at Quirk Jeep in Braintree, MA. I worried that I was going to get shafted. It didn't happen. They replaced upper and lower ball joints, front U joint, I paid for a coolant flush, $100 deductible and free loaner car.

Had mine done lst month in Butler, NJ. They didn't really do anything, just advised that they were "recommending" almost $900 worth of work.

1) Coolant Flush for around $200
2) 4WD "service" for $330 (flush diffs/xfer case)
3) New Steering Damper for $330

2008 Jeep has 22k miles and no issues with steering or anything, I declined all work and they still "passed" it.

I got the feeling from above that as expected, the "lifetime warranty" is really just a scam to keep money flowing into their service dept. at this place.

Malloc you need to go to another dealer and check those items that the first dealer did.If the coolant is bad it could void the warranty on your engine.now the first dealer has logged it in the computer for Chrysler to see as well.

You can do the work yourself, or have some other shop do it. That is the law. Also, most dealers recommend work before maintenance charts in the owners manual. Check the manual and comply with it. Mark work done on those charts. Save receipts.

I'd recommend let dealer take care of radiator for two reasons:

1) They can be expected to use proper coolant. But double-check their work ***before*** they pour new coolant in. OAT/HOAT confusion. If that doesn't ring a bell, do some reading before having coolant changed.

2) Disposing of a couple gallons of coolant is a hassle; dealer can do it easily (they probably recycle it).

It should be about $140-150 for that.

Pull your steering stabilizer and check it for leaks and pressure. Should be stiff to move either direction. It does not push out on its own (it is not a shock absorber). If it is bad, replace with a stronger aftermarket one. $50 parts and 20 minutes work.

Drain and refill your own fluids in accordance with the owners manual schedule for your Jeep (there are two--read the instructions and use the appropriate one). Fluids will cost about $100-300, depending on whether you select dino, synthetic or stupid-high-priced-synthetics. Shop around. Around here, full synth oil is $9.50 at O'Reilly's and Autozone, and $6.50 at Target and Walmart.

If you have six speed, it is a small pain to pull drain bolt. Read up on it and fabricate the special tool from a cheap Allen wrench. The rest are pretty easy. Expect a couple hours to do all if it is your first time. Be prepared to dispose of lots of drained fluid--many auto parts stores and Walmarts will take off your hands.

$330 for a steering stabalizer?? That is a 10 min job and a stock replacement is nothing, you could get a pretty one for $100, hell for 330 you can get the Fox ats , 15 min install

Thanks very much guys for the pointers and recommendations. I was definitely going to do the steering stabilizer myself after seeing they were like $45 and just two bolts, that is if mine is even really shot. I guess I will throw the dealer a bone and let him do the radiator when the tax return comes in. Will look into doing diffs myself also.

I do have the six speed and have been thinking about going to synthetic in there after hearing so many people say it irons out the occasional notchiness.

Thanks a lot,
malloc

****Check your owners manual**** and read up on the Chrysler HOAT/OAT coolant change. HOAT is good for 100K miles. OAT for 150K miles. Are you past those?

As for the SS, the Teraflex TF 9550 is about $50, and way stronger than OEM.
