Floppy Full Doors
I test drove a 4 dr JK and really liked it. I haveo ne 2yr old and a kid on the way, so I'm going to be in Child seats for a while. The full doors seem to just have a teather that keeps the door form opening too far. It doesn't have a strut or hinge that would keep the door from closing. Loading kids in the car while getting banged by the door is going to get old and raise the ire of my wife.
Am I right about the door set-up? Anything tomake the doors act like regular doors?
Thanks,
Mark

All jeeps do that. There isn't anything to hold them open. Just park with the nose facing downhill.
Actually, there probably are things you could wedge into the door opening, or you could rig up your own cam system. Otherwise, you learn to live with it basically.

I have a 3 year old and 8 year old. I don't have any issues with the doors. Just lock the door so that the 3 year old can't open it. Then I get out open the door and becareful not to bang the car next to me. Of course I usually park away from everyone else since the jeep is new.
I have to remind the 8 year old to be careful if I park next to someone but I try not to so he doesn't accidently hit anything.

I've found that my doors aren't really long enough to hit other cars unless I'm REALLY close. Quadratec has something to hold the doors open on a TJ- not sure if they would work on a JK, but if not, I'm sure it's just a matter of time before they make it for the JK.

yeah... once you own a jeep, you start palnning your parking... where is it level or pointing downhill?? when i go camping i put my tailgate point down hill and to the right, so i can unload my gear without the heavy gate trying to cut off my legs
but if they had a locking hinge... they would much to annoying to take the door off
it's all about timing. open door wait for it to come back to you and push open again with you left foot just as you exit. step to the left and twist so you can use your right elbow to push the door shut.

I just took the top and doors off. The kids love it and my wife wants her own jeep now. I have 3 kids, one still in a car seat. I have had several vehicles over the years and the Jk is actually one of the easiest to use with kids, top and door off or on. Maybe it just seems that way because it is more fun but we seem to take the jeep everywhere now. Had to convince the wife it was safe for the kids with no doors for the kids ages 3,5 and 7. She told me to buy some half or safari doors quick (he he he).
Thank you DC for the 5 passenger jeep
