Default Folding Sunrider Top Questions/comments

When I first tried to fold just the front portion of the Sunrider back on my 4-door , I think my folds were too big, so the top would droop down over the back seat passengers, then I took another look at the pics on this site, and realized that I was not folding the top at each split in the door retaining channel shims.

I think, after a couple of tries, I figured out how to fold the Sunrider top correctly. I think the trick is to make smaller folds, so that everything lines up evenly and is supported by the back bar that is just above/behind the back seat. Please correct me if I am wrong...

1) When I fold the Sunrider, the bow assembly bar that disconnects ends up sort of wrapped within the folds... is that how it is supposed to be?

2) My question is, once the Sunrider top is folded back and the bars have been secured with the Velcro straps, (assuming the windows have all been removed from the soft top) is it safe if I drive like this on the highway?

3) Same as above, I think the folds were too big when I was trying to fold the top completely down. I was having a bit of trouble getting the entire top folded down neatly within the tailgate. Due to the rain, I have not been able to try this since, but is it safe to say that once the Sunrider has been properly folded over the passenger compartments, I can simply continue to fold the top in the same manner until it is completely down?

Thanks!

Default Welcome!

Several things...plus some photos...

Check or search for Jeeping 101 ... the thread is here https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-talk-26/top-items-new-jeep-owners-7004/
for things across the board.

As for the folds, https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...1&postcount=19 plus there is a great write up from Don a Vee at http://project-jk.com/index.php/?p=32

Also, if you get the clover patch, it will fit under the top when all folded down

or see larger shots at the link to the left re: gallery

As for highway, I've been running at 75 without issue in each mode without incident.

Again - welcome!

you only need to remove or roll up the rear window, if you remove all 3 in the sunrider position some say that the rear corners of the top will be loose and end up comming out of the channel and flap all over the place.
If you have it in the sunrider and the windows are out it only takes another 10 seconds to put the top all the way down.

Are you unVelcroing that bow? If so, you don't have to.

Here is a pic by pic link for Sunrider and all the way down.

Ruskin,

The manual was ambiguous, but I THOUGHT it meant that you should only ride up to 45 with the top open if you did not remove/rollup the rear window. It does not appear to say anything about a max speed while driving with the rear window open.
