Default Forgotten Oil Cap

So I go in to get new tires for the Jeep and decide that I'll get an oil change. Got the Jeep back and the proceeded to drive 200 miles round trip. I parked the Jeep on Sunday and started driving it off and on for another 50 miles or so. I then decide to check fluids since I am heading south for a week.

I pop the hood and the oil cap is staring at me right next to the hood latch!!!!! WTF!?!?!

My question is, is my engine ok? There is plenty of oil in the engine and there was no splatter on the hood.

(Yes, I ripped into the place that did my oil change already)

Thanks for your thoughts.

Erik

You're okay... Some dust "may" have gotten into valve cover but no big deal... Throughout life this has probably happened to all of us once. Maybe just change oil again at 2500 miles instead of 3000

Crank case ventilation air is drawn into the valve cover through the rubber hose that goes to the air filter.
With the cap missing, air is more likely to be drawn in through the larger hole.

If you did not drive a lot of miles in a lot of dusty air, put the cap on and go. Do an early oil change if you feel it will be beneficial.

If you went through a lot of dust for quite a few miles, change the oil now.
