Freedom Top panel alignment problem
Well it seems that my freedom top panels are not aligned very well. I tried to loosen the hard top bolts in order to shift the top thinking that it is just not squared up. It's obviously not square, but I was wondering if other have this problem with their tops? I havn't noticed any leaking. Then again, it hasn't really rained much since i got it. Do ya'll think it's a big enough problem worth taking it to the dealer?
Tell you the truth i have never looked at the top to see if the 2 pieces are aligned but I have had the front panels off and on numerous times and have not had any leaks. I have noticed that the rubber shoe that goes on the front clamp keeps coming off of the steel portion of the clamp on the passenger side, when that happens the panel does not position itself correctly. as soon as the rubber shoe is put back on the panel aligns itself and the side latches can be latched.
There should be enough play in the freedom panels that you can get them aligned. I think the concensus is to place both panels on and align them, then lift them each straight up to make sure the seals are not pinched and then latch the passenger side (header and B-pillar latch) then the drivers (header and B-pillar). I then put the thumb screws in (passenger side first) and finally do the center latches. I have never had any problem moving them a bit to perfect alignment. I would not mess with the rear portion of the top.
Well, I have taken the panels off and took a few measurments to verify if the hard top was square with the windshield. It is slightly out of square. When re-installing the panels and attempting to align them, I couldn't due to alignment pins and the rear seal.
Even though the hard top has aglingment pins I make sure the freedom panels are aligned and installed perfectly before I torque down the hardtop to the body for the season. This ensures that the hardtop is in the right spot. After that you should be able to line everythig up good. Dont forget to use a rubber treatment on all of the sealing surfaces and weatherstriping to keep the rubber moisturized and supple. this will give you the best possible sealing surface and it will let the panels sit where they are supposed to. I am not sure if the 09's have as much of a problem with the new center latch to the windshield though.
Cheers,
