Default Freedom Tops

I read on another board that Jeep was no longer taking orders on Freedom Tops. Any truth to this? If so why??

Ok, so I answered my own question on this. I went to my local jeep dealership. My father has a friend who is the manager of the service department, who answered my questions and also gave me a heads up in regards to a couple of other issues.

As we all know the 15th of March is the last date to order rescue green. It’s currently taking 6-8 weeks to get one in. The freedom tops can be ordered with your vehicle; however they are not taking any other orders of freedom tops outside of this scenario at this point and time. The hold up on the tops are three fold. 1. Some are leaking, as we all know. But they are starting to think that the majority of the issues are due to user error. He heard that they are currently looking at a redesign. 2. They changed freedom top manufacturers. Slowing down production. Which leads to 3. Both manufacturers used slightly different colored polymers in production. So parts are not matching. Thus Jeep has had to paint a some of the tops to get the colors to match.

He also mentioned another issue with the freedom tops, which is that they have a tendency to crack on the corners when they are placed on the ground. He said that one has to be very careful placing them onto a surface.

Thanks for letting us know what you found out. I have been wondering what the reason was for this newest hold on the Freedom tops. I guess we will all have to continue to wait and see what happens. I gotta tell ya though, I am begining to wonder if I should scrap my 07 order and wait for an 08...I would imagine the redesign of the Freedom top will be much better. Oh...what to do?

On the third point above about the cracking, the two times I have taken mine off and set it on the ground, I have set it on either folded up towels or on floor mats to keep it from cracking.

I was hoping to replace my Softtop on my Unlimited with a Factory Hardtop. Hopefully if jeep does offer a Redesigned Top, that they will fit/work properly with the '07's, and not be limited to '08 models & up. Wonder when these new Tops will be out? My Dealer said that to outfit my '07, it would cost approximately $3500.00 for the Freedom Top/Hardware/Install and tax. But if a better Top is coming, I'll wait, so long as it will fit.

Just placed an order on Monday (2/12) for a stone white Unlimited X with hard top and side air bags. Talked with the dealer today and he said it was scheduled to be built on the 27th of this month with delivery a couple weeks after that. Sounds like DC is finally catching up. Can't wait to get it. Always a jeep man, although I haven't had a Wrangler since I got married 10 years ago.

I got my Jeep in late January with only a soft top, and they were able to get me a Freedom Top in less than one month. Just had it installed today...
