Default Frickin' Gascap

My Gascap error message came on evertime I started my '09 JK Rubi so I took it into the dealer. They couldn't figure out what was wrong so I suggested that they put on a new gas cap (since I'm still under warranty). They put on a new cap and changed some sensor hoses and that took care of the problem...

...for about three days. Now I am getting the frickin' Gascap error message again which has led to my check engine light being on all of the time.

I'm not convinced the dealer can figure this out on their own (when I picked up my JK the service techs asked me how I was able to put pictures of my kids on the MyGiG. They were also shocked to find out that the MyGig could play a DVD!)

Any suggestions? Thanks!

yeah check your EVAP canister under your jeep, its the black rectangle plastic box with a couple hoses going to it, see if there are any cracks, hose with a hole in it...

Thanks for the input! I thought about buying a new (and locking) cap but I figured it should come out of the dealership's pocket, not mine.

Nice to know about the EVAP, I will "suggest" the dealer take a look at that as an option.

What really scares me about the dealership is these same techs are putting on lifts (my dealer consistently stocks at least three new lifted JK's at any given time). I almost went that route until I found this forum and started reading all of the threads about problems that can occur with some lifts/installations. Now, I am going to take my time, get educated on what I need in terms of lift (probably TF 2.5" spring), and find a respected shop to put it on (if I can't find some local JK Forum Members to bribe with beer and food at an install party).

I had the gas cap light on my 07 out of the blue... kinda. I looked under the Jeep and the plastic tube from the fuel tank to the evap canister was just hanging down against the axle (ripped off from the canister). Replaced the evap canister and plastic tube and all has been fine. That was about a year ago.

Thanks again guys. I looked at the EVAP and hoses and didn't see anything obviously wrong so I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for several minutes. So far, so good.

mine just came on today too (gascap warning) I replaced the factory one with a locking one a few weeks back and now today the warning keeps coming up even after re-tightening the cap 5 times, guess tomorrow I'll crawl under and check it out

I noticed that mine came on after I made my exhaust a shorty. The tip is next to the evap now but I doubt that the heat is effecting it 'cause the jeep is in movement most of the time when it's on.
