Angry Front Axle - Leak Help

Attached are a few picks of the axle shaft on the passenger side. I think I broke the oil seal. The rig only has 6K, and I just noticed the leak. It has been a few weeks since it has been off road. If it is a seal, is this something that should be covered under warranty? What would have caused it?

it should be covered by the warranty unless you packed it with mud. In that case rinse out the tube before you bring it to the dealer.

X2

While my front end was apart so Aussie could look at the locker, I checked the seal to see why the driver's side was leaking.
The seal looked fine, but I noticed that the axle tube was full of semi-dried mud, rust, and water.
It seems Chrysler, in their infinite wisdom, only has inner seals near the diff, so the entire axle tube is a repository for whatever crud you drive through. And the little plastic shield at the end of the axle is almost useless.
I figure some rust or mud was wedged in between the seal and axle allowing a small leak.
I've been checking the end of the axle since it was put back together and so far (knock on wood) the leak appears to have stopped. So whatever was in there, has been cleared out.

As soon as I can afford it, I'm going to get a set of sleeves from EVO. This setup is ridiculous.

I've already put in my two cents on this since I've had this same leak for over a year on my new '08 Rubi. I DON'T drive mud/water and my passenger side front seal has been replaced over 4 times and has had a new passenger side shaft installed. Still leaks! The dealer is putting on a new front axle housing on Thursday. I thought I was getting a whole new front axle assembly but they will take my internal axle parts and put them in a new housing with new seals and bearings. We'll see how this works or doesn't work. IF the leak continues after this, THEN we will shoot for a whole new axle assembly. Everything new but the brakes. THIS IS GETTING REAL OLD REAL FAST! I have the "lifetime drivetrain warranty" at least. The problem is I thought I was getting a "lifetime of warranty" NOT a "lifetime of warranty work". I'll let you know how it works.

All that does is mask the issue, because the inner seal can still leak and you won't see it because the outer superior seal with hold it in.

Leaking axle seals were a pretty common problem on TJ's as well. As long as you have warranty the dealer should replace them no problem.

So, keeping this post going. I too just fell prey to the axle leak problem. Last Monday I had EVO axle sleeves installed (and gussets, and LCA skids). Got the jeep home and everyhing looked great. The next weekend we travled 6 hour to SoCal and the next morning we noticed a stream of fluid leaking out. There was no off-roading in between the install and the leak.

I'm confused becuase during the sleeve install the axle housing was cleaned out. I really hope the shop didn't bang something during the install, but the timing would suggest so.

I would have thought the seals on sleeves would have kept this from happeneing.
