Default Front cup holder insert ??

Well I took the rubber insert out of my front cup holder a few days ago and talk about a battle to get that thing out. this might be the dumbest question I have ever asked lol but how in the hell do you get that thing back in. I have a 2011 and my 08 just popped out and right back in. The design on this makes it literally impossible to get it back in there. Any tips or suggestuons? I would just leave it out but not sure if anything would leak down in the holes if it would cause damage or short anything out because I am assuming they are there for a reason but maybe just there for looks I dunno.

Thanks in advance!!!!

I feel your pain...I took mine out to clean it and it will never come back out to get cleaned again. It took quite a while to get it back in there. Just push on it hard and try to work the edges in as best as you can. That's about all I did and it worked. No real easy way to do it.

Thanks for the reply!! I ended up cutting off the little rubber pieces that you have to get in there before putting the rubber lip in the groove. I then got it back in within a couple minutes and should come back out a lot easier now. Doesn't move around and still fits in there perfect.

Nice! Glad you got it to work so well. I might have to do that myself!

How much bigger is it without the insert? My water bottle is just a tad too big with the insert in.

Never mind, just pulled mine to check. Not a lot of difference, but just enough for my Camelbak 1l bottle. It does look like a major pain to put back in. I took some scissors and cut it off about a half inch above the bottom. That covers the holes and goes in a lot easier and still fits my bottle.
