Default Front differential cover paint question.

The paint on my front diff cover appears to have run a little at the factory, and now some has flaked off, can I just lightly sand the offending areas and touch it up with spray paint while on the jeep? I can also see where the front cover gasket material is visible, it squeezed out a bit when they put it on, will paint overspray affect the non-visible working portion of the gasket?

Yes you can sand it and paint it the color of your choosing. There is not really anything there you can hurt with the paint. Except maybe the shaft of your steering stabalizer. Try not to get paint on that.

I am a big fan of POR-15 products. They are kinda pricey but if applied correctly, they'll last a long time. You sound like you are concerned about looks and if you applied the POR-15 and then their Chassis Coat I think you would be impressed. As I said, they are a little pricey. Rattle can looks good, you just have to do it more often.

^ Very interesting suggestion, i've never heard of that stuff, and it will most likely be on the Jeep someday, as it looks awesome, but these diff. covers aren't going to be on all that long. The rocks I'm riding stock are scary, and armor is going to be the very first investments, before considering a lift and tires.
